Beecraigs Country Park is one of West Lothian Council’s premier visitor attractions offering a wide range of recreational opportunities throughout the 1000 acre site. The existing play area had been a major draw but over the last few years had, through wear and tear, reached the end of its life and was badly in need of redesign and refurbishment.

Following wide ranging consultation with local schools, youth clubs and the wider community through local shops, community centres and Beecraigs on-site visitor centre, a new design was agreed.

The new play area sits comfortably in its natural setting and uses the sites topography to enhance the play opportunities. With something for everyone, from the youngest to teenagers, parents and carers, the play space incorporates; sand play; low level interactive elements; challenging high level climbing and dynamic fast moving roundabouts and cableways.

The play equipment, constructed using timber from sustainable sources, enhances the setting and blends into the landscape reinforcing this beautiful site's heritage.

Natural materials form this inviting play space, enhanced by a small splash of colour to signal come and play to the youngest of explorers. This area has been carefully thought out to accommodate children as young as one, to enable them to play unaided and to explore their surroundings safely. Swinging, sliding, climbing, balancing and rocking are all included to build confidence.
