Carver Barracks

Saffron Walden, Essex

Carver Barracks has taken just over 10 months to complete from raising funds right through the opening of the play area.

Over £180,000 has been raised to produce a flagship destination park for the local residents of Carver Barracks.

The fund raising and efforts of the Rowney Community group were so successful that a smaller satellite play area was also renovated.

The main site displays a wide range of equipment covering all ages and abilities but with a large focus on providing access for wounded and recovering soldiers to play with their families.

Lt Col Barrett was delighted with the success of the project.

"We have been overwhelmed by the support for the playground fund both locally and nationally," he said. "I think our success was due to people's horror at the old dilapidated facilities as well as wanting to support the families of our Bomb Disposal teams. The new playground will dramatically improve the quality of life for families here and we are really excited to see the children enjoying it."

Located on the edge of the MOD Site at Carver Barracks KOMPAN created an area with two  age zoned areas catering for children form 2 years old to 15 years old.

The Younger children's equipment was selected from the Moments and Elements ranges. Providing a large variety of active and cognitive play activities.

The centrepiece being the Storymakers Palace/Fort themed Combination unit.

The older children's area is designed around equipment from the Elements 6+ and Galaxy ranges.

The site is surfaced using a variety of materials to create distinct zones.

KOMPAN have provided a variety of activities specifically chosen to ensure the site has activities suited to all abilities.
