Henry Reynolds

London Borough of Waltham Forest

Henry Reynolds Gardens in East London needed to transform its existing toddler area to give the area’s smallest children a playground that would match the quality of its KOMPAN-designed junior playground.

Project Brief
Inspired by a successful refurbishment of the junior area at Henry Reynolds Gardens by KOMPAN in 2015, the London Borough of Waltham Forest sought to increase the play value and appeal of the toddler area. The toddler play area was so unsuitable that the little ones used the junior playground next door - not ideal.

Waltham Forest hoped for more exciting play equipment for children between the ages of one and seven. To spark children's imaginations it asked for unique character and personality for the site - a far more bespoke design.

The Result
The design centred on creativity and imagination, with the forest lake boat and wizardry hideaway providing endless opportunities for themed and pretend play. The ocean and harvest finger mazes engage and challenge the toddlers in activities they can enjoy with parents. The children also enjoy the playground's physical challenges and high activity thanks to equipment including the cradle swing, bee springer, bug seesaw, roundabout and timber bridge.

The rustic Robinia range used throughout the playground creates a woodland atmosphere in an urban location while the synthetic grass - which encourages games with its vibrant graphics - provides a safe surface that covers an unsightly existing wall, making it a feature.

Testimonial
"The KOMPAN team communicated very well. They were very responsive to any queries and concerns and offered quick and helpful solutions.

The refurbished young children's play area has been very well received by the community. They are thrilled with the improvement work that has been undertaken and the play area has been extremely well used ever since it reopened."
