Landscaped to create a welcoming natural environment!
Stirling Developments, who aims “to create great places to live”, needed a playground specialist to design and install a leap for Phase 1 of their Calderwood Development in West Lothian.
Calderwood, a site Stirling Developments describe as “a Garden of Eden close to Edinburgh”, meant being surrounded by nature was intrinsic to the lifestyle they were creating for their customers. Looking for a natural play area to compliment the landscape style throughout and that brought great play value to the new community; Stirling Developments tasked KOMPAN with designing something to reflect their ambitions for their people-centric masterplan.

Our design team ensured this play area was not only fun for the children but was landscaped using mounds, boulders and trees to create a welcoming natural environment for all, sympathetic to its surroundings.
Play equipment catering for younger children was grouped in the southern corner of the site which included a little boat to encourage role play, social interaction and storytelling. The sand play area located between the toddler play space and park seating provides opportunity for safe creative play.
A large climbing frame is the centrepiece of the space providing the opportunity for many children to play at once. The seesaw and wacky spinner provide dynamic play for children whilst somersault bars provide an opportunity to show off acrobatic skills. The play area also hosts a large two bay swing with two standard seats and a nest seat.
Rounded landscape boulders provide informal seating and climbing opportunities. The combination of these with grass, sand and playchip alongside our Robinia play equipment and furniture truly compliments and enhances the area.
