Inspection, Maintenance, Repairs and Refurbishments.
The derelict playground in Bromsgrove was in a very poor condition. It had been closed for many months, with rotting timbers, frayed ropes and many missed components, as well as fire damage to some equipment. It had also became an area where anti-social activities were taking place and the nearby area was now lacking a community play space. In addition, the area was receiving a lot of ‘bad press’. The area had been fenced off, but this fencing had then been knocked down. This allowed the hazardous playground to be accessed by anyone, including the local children. Sharp metal objects with piercing edges could be seen spread out across the area.
KOMPAN spoke with the Housing Trust to provide advice and to set up an on-site meeting. A visual playground inspection was then carried out where missing items and areas of concern were recorded. These, along with the condition of the play area, were then discussed with the client, as well as options on the way forward. One option was to repair and provide future inspections of the site.
Although BDHT had already received another quote for the site, KOMPAN won the order and carried out repairs and refurbishments to the whole site. This included repairs to the main multi play unit with new timber panels. The swing seats were renewed for toddlers and the burnt spinner bowl was replaced with a new one.
