A local community group in Poppleton were successful in securing funding to refurbish the existing play area next to the very popular Poppleton Centre. The site was under-used due to the age/quality of play equipment and working with CYC, the aim was to re-develop into an exciting, adventurous and challenging play space for all users and abilities.
The consultation with the Poppleton community, school and nursery children identified that the following items of equipment are required: Swings to cover a range of ages and abilities, a climbing structure which incorporated slide(s). It was also to include an inclusive Roundabout, Zip-Wire, Monkey bars, Fireman pole and balance activities.
The design should also ensure sufficient space for seating and have areas designated for small children and space for greater parental supervision.
We were successful in being selected by CYC for the play project – we had held several site meetings with the end user group to fully understand their needs and aspirations for the new play facility, what they would like and more importantly, what they didn’t want.
We created a wonderful, inspiring play facility which offers so much play value for all ages and abilities, and is now an asset to the village and community centre, attracting visitors from afar!
