Phase 1 of Riverside Primary School’s revamp of their Early Years outdoor space was carried out during the Easter break.
The school, who are members of the Lionheart Academy Trust, are located in Birstall and chose to work with Kompan for this exciting development of a key learning space within the school grounds.
Date of Installation: September 2017
Age Group: EYFS
Product Range: Robinia
Project Value: £17,000
Phase one consisted of a Forest Lake Boat and trim trail items set in blue wet pour to stimulate and encourage role play, language and creativity. On calling into the school the week after installation, it was great to see the children assuming the role of pirates, sailors and adventurers. Stories were being played out as the children’s speaking (shouting!) and listening skills were being honed. The boat comes with a steering wheel and binoculars so it was pleasing to see the children develop their social skills through taking turns and sharing.
We also added a collection of playground markings to develop numeracy, literacy, physical strength and social skills through playing games. Finally interactive panels were installed for the children to develop their fine motor skills, through writing and using moveable panel parts.
"We found Kompan Ltd and Paul Greenfield the Area Sales Manager in particular to be helpful, knowledgeable and flexible in sorting out our requirements - being an activity play area for our Foundation stage and Year 1 children. Paul listened to our requirements and with a mind not only on children's play but also the teaching and learning, Paul was able to produce an end result to suit all.
Since the installation the children have really enjoyed using their new dynamic area, while at the same time learning new skills along the way.
We would recommend Kompan Ltd to any school thinking of improving their activity play areas."
