East Dorset and Christchurch District Council required a total renewal for The Quomps Play Area after much of its existing play equipment had reached the end of its life.
Pieces of play equipment including the multi-unit with slide and role-play train had become worn out and in need of replacing, while some of the playground's pieces required refurbishment to offer better play value. The council wanted a design that would reflect the site's proximity to the quay and complement the adjacent splash park.

KOMPAN designed a water-themed park using a simple combination of two colour-flecked wetpour surfaces as the basis - the new ground suggests water and land areas with pirate ships floating on the sea. The scheme incorporates play opportunities that push creative and physical boundaries while capturing imagination. All ages can play pirates together and younger children can graduate from one ship to another.
Block colour changes on the surface reinforce the theme and delineate areas, indicating a change of activity so different age groups have clear zonal changes. Routes between areas of activity are unimpeded and smooth and level surfacing ensures accessibility for all.
